Classes for Children

We are pleased to offer a wide choice of classes in all forms of stage-dance, with examinations and/or medal tests being available for all groups if desired.

Introduction to Dance
(For Children from the age of three)
Using a wide range of music suitable for young children, pupils are introduced to simple Ballet, Mime, Acrobatics, Rhythms (for Tap and Modern), Lyrical/Expressive Dance and Characterisation. Children have the opportunity to take Silver and Gold Rose Awards while in these groups.  These are simple introductory tests with the support of a teacher for which the children receive a Trophy, Report and Certificate.

Ballet Classes
(For Children from the age of six)
Leading on from the Introduction to Dance Classes, and still incorporating Mime, Lyrical Dance and Character Dance.

Tap Classes
(For Children from the age of five)
Have fun making rhythms with feet and hands to a wide variety of music

Modern Jazz/Stage Dance Classes
(For Children from the age of seven who already attend our ballet classes)
Dance to music from musicals and some chart music. This is Modern dance for stage performance - not a Disco Dancing class.

Acrobatic Dance Classes
(By invitation according to ability shown in ballet classes)
Children need to be naturally supple, confident and safety-conscious and already be attending ballet and Modern Jazz.

Lyrical Dance
Expressive dance with Contemporary feel, performed to slow/smooth music from musicals or romantic songs

Ballet, Tap and Modern Jazz Classes are available for all standards to Advanced.

Our classes are for the type of dancing which is performed on theatre stages, and not for dancing done socially in clubs and ballrooms.  It is recommended that pupils start with ballet, add tap when they are older and Modern, when we feel they are mature enough to cope. Each form of dance helps with the others in terms of technique, style, etc.  Very few dancers make progress in Modern Jazz if they don't also study ballet

Opportunities are made for pupils to take part in Shows, Medal Tests, Summer Fairs, Examinations, Scholarships, Tapathons, Cabarets, and other events.
