On 4/5, 10/11 March 2007 we performed "Dance Fever" at Bonington Theatre, Arnold. All tickets were sold out well before the event. The proceeds of that show, together with savings from other shows from the last few years, have been used to resurface the maple floor in the Hall of Sherwood Community Centre. In March 2008, a new maple dance floor was installed in our annex studio and another room. Recently the annex studio has had mirrors added to the walls and the barres have been renewed.
In November, teachers and several pupils attended Tap Attack in Birmingham, where we were able to participate in classes taught by dancers from Tap Dogs, River Dance, Hot Shoe Shuffle and 42nd Street.
Examinations sessions are held regularly throughout each two year period, except at the time when we are working on our show. This doesn't mean that pupils are constantly taking exams it means that the opportunities are there when dancers are ready to take the exams.
On 21 June, we were to have performed at the Sherwood Festival on Woodthorpe Park. Unfortunately, weather conditions did not permit this. Instead, a last minute decision gave pupils the opportunity to perform to family and friends in the Hall of the Community Centre.
SUCCESSES IN VOCATIONAL EXAMS:
It is not our policy to name pupils, but parents have signed to permit use of photos on this website.
Examinations have been held regularly between shows, with some excellent results and several senior students taking Vocational Examinations (equivalent to AS Levels).
One of these girls has now gone to SLP in Leeds on a full-time Dance course, but had also been offered places at LCP (Leicester) and Millemmium Dance 2000 (London). We wish her every success in a Dance career.
Well done to these and all other pupils who have taken exams at our sessions in 2007/8 and good luck to those who will be taking exams at subsequent sessions.
